Blue Ridge Mountains Farm in North Carolina at Sunset

I have added a new fine art photograph to the online gallery.  The picture shows the sun setting on an old, rusty vintage piece of farm equipment.  I’m not fully sure what it is, but I think it is some type of grader.  The photo was taken  in a rural farming area of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina not too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I like the way the low light of the setting sun and the long shadows it creates is cast upon the side of the grader.  It makes this photo look almost 3D.  When I composed the picture I tried to put it in context.  On the right and filling most of the picture is open pasture farm land.  On the upper left is other vintage farm equipment which I tried to connect the grader to.  At the location this picture was taken, there are probably 50 or 60 pieces of old vintage farm equipment parked along the side of the road.  I talked to the retired farmer about them and he told me that over his long lifetime career as a farmer, as equipment was replaced he would park it on the side of the road.  But he also told me that every piece was restored to functionality before it was replaced there.  I have taken many pictures at this location, but have not visited it in years.  A developer purchased some very large chunks of land not to far from the farmer’s location and began building huge retirement home meccas.  I would not be surprised to fine the old farm equipment is no longer lining the side of the road.

A new style of art for interior decorating created

I have created a new style of art from my original fine art photography that I feel would be perfect for interior decorating, commercial interior design, and so forth.  I call the images Tranquil Moments.

As I said, the new images originate with my own fine art photographs.  The images are then brushed and enhanced to make them less busy, simpler, more generic, and more aesthetically pleasing.  Some may call them abstract or surreal.  But the goal was to make them pleasing to the eye because of the beautiful colors and simplicity as opposed to a traditional photograph that might focus on a specific subject or scene.

Because they are oriented toward simple aesthetic beauty, I think they will work well in just about any interior decorating or commercial interior design application.

Below are a few of the images as example.  Initially, I have created 21 in the gallery, and plan on releasing more on a regular basis.  So check often for new work.

The gallery of all image can be found at:

Before the Sun Sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway

I took this picture of a single tree on top of a hill on the Blue Ridge Parkway prior to the sun rising.  It was a soft and mild summer morning with long grass swaying in a warm breeze.

This fine art photograph of the Blue Ridge Mountains was taken in the Doughton Park area of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The photo was taken well before sunrise and the first light of a new day had just begin to appear on the horizon.  The soft grasses of summer were swaying in a breeze and the leaves of the trees rustled.  I like this photo because of its warmth and soft generic style.  Soft motion can be seen in the tree and grasses.  The Daughton Park area has always been one of my favorites.  If you know the area well, there are some hidden wild apple trees there and in the fall you can get some of the best tasting apples you have ever bitten into.

A stunning colorful Blue Ridge Parkway Fall Sunrise

I took this photo of a spectacular colorful fall sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Pisgah Forest area of North Carolina.  The sunlight was shining down through a layer of fog,  illuminating the mountains decorated with fall colors.

Unfortunately, many of the beautiful trees seen here may no longer exist.  The North Carolina mountains have been hit hard with an aphid-like insect infestation.  The Wooly Adelgid feeds on hemlock and spruce trees and poses a major threat to forests in North Carolina as well as other eastern areas.

But very little can be done about the problem.  The insects can be removed from trees by vigerously washing them, or by trimming infested branches from the tree.  However, this is logistically impossible considering that entire mountain ranges full of trees would have to be individually tasked.  Insectisides are not usable because of potential pollution to streams and lakes.  Unfortunately, there is little that can be done but to watch these beautiful trees and forests die off.

Disregarding problems, I have always loved this picture.  The way the sun is sitting just underneath the low clouds, and the way it shines upon and illuminates the fall colors is beautiful.

Flowers of Spring on Blue Ridge Parkway

A new image was recently added to the gallery.

This fine art photograph was taken shortly after sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.  It shows a foggy spring morning with brilliant new growth green and newly budding flowers on the trees.  Prints are available in traditional fine art photography and painted photograph versions.

This picture was taken in the Doughton Park area of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina .  The photo was in early May.  In lower elevations, May is considered to be mid- or late-spring.  But at the higher elevations of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Spring comes later.

It was shortly after sunrise, and patches of fog were rolling up the eastern side of the mountain, floating across the roadbed of the parkway, and rolling down the western side.  The fog makes the scene soft and gentle.  I like the patches of light that poked through holes in the fog that light areas of the grass and flowering trees.  This fine art print epitomizes the softness, the brightness and the beauty of Spring in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Many people focus on Fall as the time to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway.  But as can be seen here, Spring provides a wonderful ride, too
